Production Log 6

This week was a good week due to the fact that i had all my footage and interviews ready the only thing i need to do is put it all together and edit it, so this week i have spent my whole time trying to put it all together and make it look good, this will need a-lot of work put into it and i may need a extra week to make it all look good, and get any extra recording i need, at the end of this week i have managed to make my work look really good in my opinion as i have made all the useless footage into something useful such as cutaways and such which came into play very well and made it look more visually pleasing, the reason why this worked well is because if i just had someone talking and just there face with nothing else it would bore my audience and this is not something i want, i want them to find my documentary interesting and by doing this i used cutaways, overall this week as been a hard week in working as i had to put a lot of effort into my work but the outcome was good, i have had to work really hard because we are far behind schedule as a class and this has made our lessons rushed, this means we didn't have the amount of time we should of on editing which is why we didnt have much time to record, so overall this project has been very stressful work wise but has helped me become more independent on the subject as i had to go out of my own way contacting people and getting to locations which aren't local, this was a good experience in learning.

Production Log 5

In total i only got 5 reply's which only one said that i could go and see them but they were to far so i had to apoligise to them and move on, because of the short amount of reply's and opportunity given to me i have had to change what i will be recording, but due to the fact i can get to my location easy i have been out this week recording at pipers farm recording the horses, as these are real abused and neglected horses you can still see the scars from the which the previous owners gave to the horses, this is good for my documentary as it is 'real' but bad for the horses as they have been harmed, also a good thing about this week is that my mums friends that she works with have offered to give me interviews which was helpful and basically saved my documentary, i have been going up to the stables everyday to get as much recording done as possible due to the fact that i am behind schedule and i need to catch up, so to catch up i am recording everyday and recording everything even parts which may be useless as i could fit them into my documentary as there is no such thing as over recording, i managed to get 3 interviews this week thanks to the people who work at pipers farm, they all own horses and work with horses so i managed to get a lot of information about the horses which is exactly what i needed. Overall this week has been good but i am still behind schedule, in order to be back on schedule i will need to edit well next week and make sure i have all the recording i need to get everything done.

Production Log 4

This week i have only heard back from only a small amount of people again which is the same problem as i had last week as they are saying they are short on staff and cannot see me unless its past my deadline, from the reply's i am getting i will have to change my documentary to just be about horses as that the only thing that i will be able to do as i can get to the location quick and i can go to the stables and interview the people my mum works with, this would be easier for me but i am not sure it would be good for my documentary due to the fact it would only be about horses when i could do it about other animals, i feel like my audience will find it boring to watch a documentary about horses when even i don't know much about horses where as i know a-lot about dogs but i won't be able to talk about dogs unless i get a professional to help me and make my documentary look 10x better due to the fact i actually have some facts and statistics thrown in there. So i am still waiting for reply from professionals for this week but if i don't get a reply soon than i will have to change my documentary so that i can start recording.

Production Log 3

This week i have been e-mailing multiple places which do dog/cat re-homing centers, vets and anywhere that does anything to do with animals, i have sent out over 20 e-mails and only received 1 which is all the way at the bottom of England near Royal Tun-bridge Wells, that is too long to get to and would be costly for me to get there, therefore this week i have been in a lot of trouble as i am not getting the responses i like as they are saying they are too busy for me to come in or they are short on staff, i have constantly tried to e-mail them back trying to get a later date which would be more suitable for them, but even than they came back to the reply with a date which was past my deadline for my documentary leaving me to find more places to find and e-mail just so that my documentary will look good, if i do not get any interviews for my documentary than my documentary will be bad which is not what i want, this week has been the hardest week so far as contacting people is not as easy as it seems, as dates times all come into play and than trying to work around them is another thing so overall this week has been very bad for me and my documentary.

This week i have been trying to plan how i will record for my documentary, in order to do this i used a planning sheet where i would write a sequence in which i would record and follow, the hard part about this is that i couldn't fit in any interviews on the sheet as i had not got any links to any professionals that are planned for me to see, so in order to get these interviews i would need to email them and make an appointment which would suit them, the struggle is trying to find places which are close and getting them to reply back, this will be done next week as this week i will be planning what i want in my documentary and what i will be talking about, i need to plan if i just want my documentary to be about horses or to be about other animals, this week i have struggled to decide which i would prefer as if i want my documentary to be about other animals apart from horses than i would need to defiantly get interviews from professionals which i would have to try and contact and that is a 50/50 chance of them getting back to me and if they don't get back to me than i would be in a lot of trouble as i need to have interviews from them.

Production Log 1

This week i was planning on what i want my documentary to be about, in order to find out which i would like it to be about i would need to find out what i was passionate about, this was hard as i couldn't pin down what i like to talk about and what i would like to talk about, so in the end i decided to go with animal cruelty, i thought this would be a good subject to talk about due to me being an animal owner and the fact that i love animals and i hate seeing pets or animals being mistreated. After deciding what i want my documentary to be about i than asked my mum if i could record stuff at her work, the reason behind this is because my mum works with horses and than i could make my documentary about abused and neglected horses, this would be easy to do because my mum goes there everyday so it is not a hard location to get to and due to the horses being real abused neglected horses it would help me out a lot. The only problem i suffered was that apart from my mum i had no other contacts with professionals which work with animals, so next week i will be planning to email people that work in re-homing centers or vets or anything that works with animals in order to get an interview for my documentary to make it look more professional.

Proposal

Aims - The aim is to help people understand how badly animals can be mistreated and tell them all about the sort of ways animals can be mistreated, this allows the audience to get a much more clearer view on animal abuse and i hope to educate them on how serious it can effect the animals after mentally and physical, i will also hope to get more people to start looking out and reporting when they see a animal they believe is being mistreated.

Content - In my documentary i will include the use of experts and interview them about what happens to mistreated animals and how they behave to animals that have not been mistreated and how it affects their lifestyles, i will also use images of animals that have been mistreated and use voice overs talking to the audience about how abuse to animals is not right and not legal, i will also be interviewing people who work with animals, for example my mum and her friends work with horses and i have been given permission by all of them to use them in my documentary and by doing this it allows them to express to the audience how mistreated horses can have a big impact, i will be recording this interviews on sight so for the horses i will go with my mum to the stables and show the horses in the background while interviewing the interviewees as this will show the realism in my documentary.

Target Audience - I will be giving my audience expert advice and extra information they hopefully do not know about, about mistreated animals, by doing this it should attract the interest of my audience and this is my goal, by giving them expert advice by people who work with animals and people who help mistreated animals this allows my documentary to look much professional and allow the audience to believe my documentary and hopefully allow my audience to help animals more than they might do already as i will be stating facts and figures, facts and figures allows my documentary to seem as a trustworthy source as it makes me look like i have put a lot of research into the documentary.

Format - My documentary is participatory, the reason for this is that i will be on the camera on location asking questions to the people i will be interviewing, the reason this is participatory is because i am on camera and not someone else, i am the director and i will be asking the questions to get as much information about the subject as possible, as i do not know much about the subject either this will be a learning experience for me and also a educational one for my audience.

Genre - My documentary will be educational because i will be stating facts and figures and also i will also be learning as well, i will be hopefully informing my audience about a subject they may not know much about and because of this i want to get as much information as possible that most people would not know such as how animals act after being mistreated, do they hide away from people? are they more aggressive towards people or other animals? For me i believe not many people know such things as this and hopefully i can inform them on things like that which they might not know about.

Style - I will use close ups when someone is talking in order to capture facial expressions, by doing this it allows the audience to see how the person is feeling because as animal cruelty can be really emotional for animal lovers so by doing this it makes the audience feel more involved as they will being getting emotions as well. Mid shots will be used for when i want to show the audience the body language of the person who is speaking and also to show the clothing, i say clothing because it allows the audience to somewhat get an idea of who is talking and what they do, for example because i am going to be doing a short documentary about animals i will need to interview people who work with animals and for one i may ask someone who works with horses, the person who works with horses is not going to be in a suit or dress they will be in work clothes and this shows the audience that the people i am interviewing are a trustworthy source of information as they are actually there working. I will use graphics when i am interviewing people and locations, as if when someone is speaking i will show there name at the bottom with their titles such as what they do and how they are relevant to the story, this will allow the audience to understand who is talking and keep them on track of what is happening. The sounds i would use are calm peaceful music when i am showing myself looking for the people i have planned to interview as this puts the audience at ease and allows them to not feel uneasy but when it comes to showing animals that have been mistreated i will allow the sad music to play because i want the audience to get really emotional about the animals that are mistreated and i believe by playing sad music i will achieve this.

The similarity with these is that it focused all about animals and this is what mine will be about so in a way they are very comparable even tho they might be about different subjects they are still keeping it to do with animals, in worlds sneakiest animals it is exactly what it says in its title it shows you what are the sneakiest animals in the world and mine will be about how animals are mistreated and therefore leaving my show more serious and this could attract a larger audience because it is a serious matter rather than a learning about what animals are sneakiest, i feel like i would gain a larger audience because the real animals lovers would choose my show over the educational show as they would want to find out how to help out and how animals are mistreated and to stop it.

In Gorilla Family and Me Gordon Buchanan goes and travels to see a family of gorillas, in this it is participatory which is what i wanted mine to be so we have similar ideas and again it is all about animals, an animal which isn't suited to be a pet as it is too big such as mine which would be horses and other animals if i wish to widen my idea, so this show is very relatable to mine due to the structure of it. I feel like i would gain more views due to our shows being very similar but mine is more about abuse and how animals are mistreated, this could gain me and advantage over this show because i will be talking about animals that most people wouldn't consider as pets the same as this show but in a more serious matter as people who own animals or love animals would watch something more serious in order to think about how to keep their pets safe.

In the dog rescuers RSPCA officers set out to find out and help dogs that are abused and neglected, this is very similar to what my documentary will be about because mine is about animals that suffer from abuse and neglect, the dog rescuers only focus on helping dogs whereas in my documentary the animal range will be expanded to every animal and by doing this it might allow a much more larger audience to tune in due to multiple animals being involved in my documentary rather than one, this is due to peoples preferences of animals, by just trying to only help dogs this may only suit to an audience who only like dogs and wouldn't gain an audience from people who just like cats, by have a wide range of animals it helps me gain a larger audience.

From my research i have found that the timings are shown rather late, the sort of time where younger children would go to bed, therefore i would play my timing of my show around 8:00pm as this seems to the most average time between all 3 of my researches, i think this is a good idea because animal cruelty can be very depressing for a younger audience to view injured and neglected animals when they don't know what is going on, so by showing the show at a late time it allows the younger audience to go to bed when the more mature audience can sit down and understand my documentary without getting too emotional without understanding what is going on.

1. What is animal cruelty?
Animal cruelty is when someone mistreats animals such as harming or not caring for the animal, for example if someone was to beat or starve a dog this would be animal cruelty, it is against the law to mistreat animals in such way which is why you would not see it much going on but behind back doors it does happen, even doing so to your own pets is illegal and this is also called animal abuse, and this is not accepted by the law or any other normal human.

2. Is there any evidence of a connection between animal cruelty and human violence?
Yes, it is evidence that children who use to mistreat or kill animals when they were younger seemed to cause the most violence such as the murders of other humans or such, this was discovered by the FBI when they look back into the past of serial killers, in most serial killers history you will find that they would abuse animals such as torture and kill and this is most likely where they gain their killer instinct.

3. Can reports be made anonymously?
Yes you can report animal abuse anonymously, if you have clear signs of animal cruelty/abuse going on please call 0300 1234 999 this is a RSPCA number they will ask you question about the source of abuse and ask you a series of questions to confirm the abuse and as much details as possible such as location of which you see the abuse happening, if possible also state the owners source of location, this will allow RSPCA to locate the individual and help the animal(s)

4. How many animals are victims of cruelty each year?
There is no way of telling exactly due to the numbers not being tracked and counted, but you hear about animal abuse everyday which is bad enough, and RSPCA assume they collect a report every 19 seconds due to animal cruelty 'The RSPCA now receives a report of animal cruelty every 19 seconds.' so within a hour 189 animals are reported to of been abused or mistreated which in a day makes 4536 animals mistreated and than we times that by 365 which gives us 1655640 animals a year are mistreated, this is not an exact number but an estimate which is given to us by RSPCA due to their 19 seconds of reports coming in.

5. What can I do to help fight animal cruelty?
To help fight against animal cruelty you can volunteer, donate, attend events and also raise money for a animals, all this can be done at the bottom of the page of http://www.humanesociety.org/action/?credit=web_id91402394 where you can click on your preferred option, this all helps with animals and to keep them safe and help mistreated animals live a better life than the one they have already been through, this is the best option of support as you cannot go round doing things by yourself
